Understanding Sin and Finding Redemption Through Jesus Christ

Watch the full sermon video above to dive deeper into this powerful message about sin and redemption.

What Is Sin? A Simple Yet Profound Truth

Have you ever wondered what sin really is? It’s a question that many of us struggle with, yet the answer is beautifully simple: sin is not following Jesus. Picture an archer aiming at a target – when we sin, we’re missing the mark of God’s perfect standard for our lives.

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” – Isaiah 53:6

Jesus: God’s Perfect Answer to Our Sin

From the very beginning, God had a plan to address our sin problem. His solution wasn’t a set of rules or a religious system – it was a person. His own Son, Jesus Christ.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

The Power of His Name

When the angel appeared to Mary, he gave specific instructions about naming her child. The name “Jesus” itself means “he will save his people from their sins.” This wasn’t just a name – it was a divine mission statement.

The Lamb of God

John the Baptist recognized this mission when he saw Jesus approaching, declaring:

“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29

Walking in the Light: A Daily Choice

One of the most powerful truths about following Jesus is that it affects every relationship in our lives. Consider these questions:

  • Are you walking in the light with your family members?
  • How about with your fellow church members?
  • What about in your private moments when no one is watching?

The Paralyzed Man’s Story: Faith That Moves Mountains

Consider the story of the paralyzed man whose friends carried him to Jesus. Their determination to reach Jesus, despite all obstacles, demonstrates the kind of faith that moves mountains. When Jesus saw their faith, He did something unexpected – He first forgave the man’s sins, then healed his body.

The Complete Work of Jesus

Jesus doesn’t do partial work. When He heals, He heals completely – body, soul, and spirit. The paralyzed man’s story teaches us that:

  1. Physical healing is powerful, but spiritual healing is paramount
  2. Jesus has the authority to forgive sins
  3. True healing leads to praise and worship

Your Personal Challenge

Today, I challenge you to examine your heart. When Jesus looks at you, does He see faith? Here’s a simple three-step challenge for this week:

  1. Spend 10 minutes each day asking God to increase your faith
  2. Identify one area where you’re “missing the mark” and surrender it to Jesus
  3. Share your journey with at least one fellow believer

A Prayer for Transformation

Let’s close with this truth: following Jesus step by step ensures we won’t miss the mark. When we follow Him closely, sin loses its power over us.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:7

Remember, dear brothers and sisters of ICA Macau, Jesus isn’t just the answer to sin – He’s the answer to every question your heart has ever asked. Will you choose to follow Him more closely today?
