God’s Call to Greatness: A Journey of Faith
Fifteen years ago, when God first planted the vision for International Christian Assembly (ICA) Macau, we couldn’t see the full picture. Just like Abraham, we stepped out in faith, not knowing exactly where the journey would lead. Today, as we celebrate God’s faithfulness, we’re reminded that when God calls, He always calls us to greatness.
“By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as inheritance, and he went out not knowing where he was going.” – Hebrews 11:8
Three Divine Pillars of God’s Calling
When God calls someone into service – and yes, He calls every believer – His calling always includes these three essential elements:
- A Call to Greatness – Not because of who we are, but because of who He is
- A Call to Obedience – Faith in action, not mere passive submission
- A Call to Victory – God never calls us to failure
The Pattern of Divine Success
Have you ever wondered why some people seem to walk so confidently in their faith? The secret lies in understanding God’s pattern for success. Just as He did with Abraham, God reveals His plans progressively. But here’s what might surprise you – He rarely shows us the entire journey upfront.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
The Power of First Steps
Many believers get stuck waiting for God to reveal the entire plan before they’ll take their first step. But here’s the truth that transformed Abraham’s life: Obedience begins with the first step. Think about Simon Peter in the boat…
“Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” – Luke 5:5
From Empty Nets to Overflowing Boats
The story of Peter’s miraculous catch teaches us something profound about obedience. When we follow God’s direction, even when it seems contrary to our experience or logic, He often surprises us with abundance. This abundance isn’t just for us – it overflows to bless others.
The Promise of Victory
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9
God’s calling always leads to victory, but here’s the key many miss: Victory doesn’t always mean ease. Sometimes the path includes challenges that strengthen our faith and deepen our dependence on Him.
Your Personal Call to Greatness
You might be thinking, “But I’m not Abraham or Peter. I’m just an ordinary person.” Here’s the life-changing truth: The same God who called Abraham is calling you. Your calling might look different – perhaps it’s excellence in your workplace, faithful parenting, or serving in your local church – but it’s no less significant.
The Challenge: Your Next Step of Faith
As we reflect on 15 years of God’s faithfulness at ICA Macau, I want to challenge you to take your next step of faith. Here’s how:
- Identify Your Calling – Ask God to reveal or confirm His specific calling for your life
- Take One Step – Choose one act of obedience you can take this week
- Trust His Promise – Remember that God’s calling always leads to victory
A Prayer for Your Journey
Father, just as You called Abraham to a journey of faith, You’re calling each of us today. Give us the courage to take that first step, the faith to trust Your leading, and the persistence to follow through. Thank You that Your calls to greatness, obedience, and victory are as true today as they were for Abraham. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
